Go the the start menus properties. click START

then where no icons are in the blue at the botton right about START right click and hit PROPERTIES

thend go onto the START MENU tab

and click customise

you can change the size of your icons to bigger or smaller, smaller ones make it look smaller

if that helps?

Thanks but it didn't help.  However, I appreciate the reply!

You probably just had your mouse pointer over the top edge until the double arrowhead resize symbol appeared and moved your mouse up, increasing the taskbar size.  I've done it, too.  Try to position your mouse over the top edge of the taskbar until the resize double arrowhead shows and just drag it back down to the shorter version.  If you can't get a resize double arrowhead, your taskbar is probably locked and you'll have to right click blank space on the bar, select Properties, select TaskBar tab and uncheck the Lock the Taskbar entry.  Then try the resize arrow steps I gave again.  Once you get the taskbar back small again, go back to that same screen and recheck the Lock the Taskbar entry again to prevent any recurrences.  If for some reason you are unable to resize it, you may have a spyware/malware issue to deal with that is doing this to your taskbar.

did you check your screen resolution? right click anywhere on your desktop and click on properties. then go to the setting tab. what most people have it on is 1024 x 768. yours is probably 800 x 600 or something.

Just curious.  How, exactly, did you fix it after defragging?
