Startup Repair Username/Password unknown and required
All
I am helping a friend out with a problem on a Inspiron 1525 Laptop, which had/has mutliple issues. The issue came down to a download of a 'false' anti-virus product which introduced several trojans/virus' including a TDSS rootkit virus. After several hours of cleaning up, I found that the TDSS rootkit virus was attached to the file afd.sys - on running a specific tdss rootkit killer it's obviously removed that file but the laptop will now not boot. My friends have thrown away the recovery disks/reinstallation disks so I am attempting a Repair - however they also do not know the usename/password combination that the startup repair is requesting. Can anyone assist with how to get around this?
Running Vista SP1.
And by the way the DVD drive is also not working....
:(
Thanks in advance

Usually with passwords on a laptop, the registered Dell owner must call Dell support to clear it. There is no field provisions. The reason for this is because of the large number of stolen laptops.
Another option is to get a set of disc from Dell. If you are in the US you can use THIS to request a set of discs. Dell has a nominal charge for the discs but it's much less than having to buy a retail Windows disc. Any needed drivers can be download.
