sttray.exe - Entry point not found

I recently had to re-install Win XP on my XPS 410 system.  For the most part everything went smoothly however, I now get a "stray.exe - Entry Point not found" error.  It goes on to say, "The procedure entry point localize String could not be located in the dynamic link library STLang.dll".  How do I fix or correct this?

Get updated sigmatel drivers for your system first, if that does not help:

start>run>msconfig>startup and disable sttray.exe from startup. This should eliminate the error.

run windows update to use default windows drivers for sound controll.

The couple times I've seen the sttray error posted here before, a clean driver reinstall takes care of it:

Go to Add/Remove and uninstall Sigmatel, then uninstall Sigmatel from device manager.  Reboot, cancel out the add hardware wizard, then download and install the Dell Sigmatel driver (and don't use the download manager - just use the regular browser option).  Should also work if you just use the driver from the CD to install instead.

I wouldn't use the drivers from Microsoft in this case.   IDT took over Sigmatel and now provides the drivers to Microsoft, but the IDT drivers MS lists often do not work correctly on the older Dell versions of the Sigmatel.

I had the exact same problem when re-installed Windows XP.  The problem appears to be the ORDER in which you re-install the drivers (not the audio driver itself).  The audio driver shouldn't be the first driver you install - you should install Desktop System Software, then Chipset and Intel Storage drivers, THEN install the audio driver.  I did this, rebooted and the error disappeared.
