Studio 15 and Windows XP

While there should be no problems running XP on the system, Dell doesn't have any drivers that have been tested on that machine using that operating system (since we don't ship it that way, we haven't tested it that way).  This means you would have to find drivers from either the manufacturers or other sources in order to get everything (or at least those parts you require) working properly.

Hi, I also have Dell 1535 studio 15 and I have problem with external microphone. It doesn't work at all. The interesting thing is that under the Mandriva linux 2009 it works, but other sounds missing. So, the microphone is fine but do not work under my WinXP. I installed all drivers from the link. For the sound I used the driver from IDT PC Audio directory. Any help, please?

If audio works in XP and the mic works in linux, then more than likely it is nothing more than a driver or configuration problem.  Since you've already reloaded the drivers, that leaves configuration settings as the most likely cause of the problem.

 

Have you already checked the volume control settings to ensure the mic is not muted (did that to myself once, and after 3 hours finally checked the 'simple' stuff ... d'uh)?

Yes, I checked that. Under WinXP I noticed that I can select Advanced Controls. It is disabled. On other computers with WinXP this option is enabled and you can select and choose microphon boost, but on my laptop it is disabled. Maybe the sound driver is not correct? I installed this sound driver: PIDT001.EXE

To be honest, I'm not sure which driver is the correct one to use on the Studio 15 running XP.  I know some of the other members of the forum have done the 'upgrade' to XP so perhaps one of them can post a link to what they used.
