Studio 1535... can I go from 64bit to 32bit?
Got Studio 1535 a couple months ago. x64 vista and 4 GB RAM. Nothing but trouble... wich took a few weeks to get serious or I would have returned for a refund. (Media panel electrostatic buttons go crazy regularly. Boot up is often dysfunctional... apparently some drivers don't load so I usually have to boot two or three times before it fully loads properly... also often fails to wake from sleep: black screen)
Anyway, after updating the bios that was supposed to fix the problems (but didn't), I'm thinking maybe what I need to try is putting 32bit vista on this machine. I'd be wasting a bit of RAM, but at this point I'd be happy to have a machine that I can count on to boot up clean and solid on one try --every time. ... and have the media panel buttons just sit there and mind own business until I press one.
So... what's the process to get a 32 bit version of Vista from Dell if I bought the machine w/64 bit on it? I'm guessing the 32bit drivers may be more mature.

You can contact Dell and request a copy of the 32 bit from tech support. Here is a link where you can order your disc.

Don't forget to install all the required drivers. The full list, in the order it should be loaded, is:

Make sure you get all the required drivers. The full list for the 1535, in the order they should be installed, is:

If I already have a disc (can't verify that at the moment--it's in my office) for 64 bit vista, is 32 bit included? Does it prompt you or something for which one you want to use?

Thanks for that info. It's extremely hard to find by searching the Dell site (I know, because I spend half an hour doing that while the Forum here was down)

I just ordered a new 1535 Studio and the OS selections didn't specify 32- or 64-bit Vista. I called and they said it's the 32-bit version that is coming.
Am I able to get the 64-bit version instead? Sales is closed today. Since I have 4GB RAM I'd like to use all of it!
The link that you post only allows a reorder of the disc that came with the PC so I'm guessing that you'd get the same version that shipped with the laptop?

I have the same issue. I ordered a Dell Studio 15 and configured it with 4gigs of RAM. They did not give the option for a 64 bit OS. I would also like to know how to get a copy of the 64 bit disc.

With respect to available RAM with 4GB installed:
The M1530 will have just under 3.6GB available when using 32-bit Vista; not too bad.
Based on other posts, you may have LESS available RAM with 64-bit Vista because of the higher RAM requirement of the 64-bit kernel.
Many like 64-bit, claiming better stability, etc. May or not be true. Biggest problem is drivers and applications. Not nearly as wide selection as for 32-bit. However, Dell is making 64-bit Vista available on more machines, and drivers are available.
