Sudden Power Loss

Additional information:  I have a Dell PC model 4550, operating system Windows XP.  The PC shuts off completely and comes back on immediately to the desktop. Whatever I was working on is lost.  Usually I am on the internet as I have an internet business.

Are you saying the PC loses power and then reboots and restarts Windows?  Or while you are typing it will lose the current program, such as the e-mail program and goes back to the desktop?, which is not a "power loss" problem.  Or you will get knocked off-line (lose your internet connection)?

Please clarify what is happening. Also your PC model number,and Operating system should be included on any initial problem report.

I have the same problem with my dell 8100 it tells me thought that there was an error with one of my device drivers or somthing.  I could be right in the middle of something then bam it trys to reboot and then bam  nothing.  After this I have a problem with getting the computer booted back up why is this?  I am not sure if it is a power supply problem or if there is a problem with something else going on.

If you have battery backup the you PC should totally ignore power interruptions, unless the interruption time is very long.  Since you use the work "immediately", it doesn't appear to be a reboot.  Can you supply any more detailed information?

To piggyback on fireberd's request for more info, does the system shutdown and restart occur only when online - or is this happening randomly regardless of whether you're online or offline?
