System Crashes after Stand-by mode

After waking my new Inspiron 530 computer up from stand-by mode it will beep then crash - goes into black screen with 'windows not shut down properly' and then choice for restart in safe mode etc...

I seen a couple messages on here in what sounds like the same issue but perhaps not?  I am not 'technical' enough to decide on my own :)

I too have the PC Chillin' anti-virus and I see that another new computer buyer switched over to Norton would this be the only solution?

I find the Vista OS incompatible and error-riddled often - as a non-tech person would I be better off stepping back to XP where I never faced any issues on my older system?

Inspiron 530:

Windows Vista

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU

Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz

3 GB Ram

Nvidia GeForce 8300 GS

Thank you in advance :)

Not sure why, mine is doing kind of the same thing,i have a 531s,and McAfee virus, anyway when in screen saver, after about 1 to 30 min it will freeze, and have to kill power to restart, and says windows did not shut down properly, etc.,i have had it two weeks, still cannot find why, have wrote dell,e-mail no-reply ,went to microsoft site downloaded everything, that sound like could help, also downloaded all recommended, downloads on dell site,(did not help)..am strongly thinking of dumping this vista, and loading xp, used it for years(no-problem)  good luck,,
