System slowdown
Does an installed anti virus program slow the system down to any degree even with the auto scan disabled. I heard some say it does.

An installed (and running) program will slow your machine to some extent. That would also include any virus or spyware that gets installed, if you don't have any Anti-virus or Anti-Spyware programs running.
Be safe run the 'anti' versions instead of the virus or spyware..
