System transfer?

I am considering upgrading to a new(er) laptop. Both will run vista, and I was wondering what would be the best way of transferring my programs and personal folder to the new one? The older laptop would be restored back to factory conditions afterwards, btw.

    Hi Walter Romero,
    What is the vista version?
VISTA ultimate has a built in back-up service.
Otherwise you could use Acronis True Image 11 Home to transfer all your programs.

" Files and Settings Transfer wizard " works great and is free with Vista.

EXCEPT - you can't transfer programs via TI. Programs will have to be INSTALLED on the new machine. If you are talking about trying to restore an image of the older disk onto the new disk, that will NOT work.
