system32 files deleted by daughter

I have tried & tried to reinstall Windows XP after my 16 year old daughter deleted the system32 files with no luck. It is an INSPIRON 1000 and although it is old it has been working like a champ until my daughter decided to help clean up the software. Any ideas before I realize I have to ship it back to DELL?

Your best solution has already been given in your other post by mombodog. I agree and would also recommend doing a repair of Windows to try and replace those missing files. If that doesn't cut the mustard, then I'd bite the bullet and do a brand new, fresh reinstall of Windows. It does require more effort on your part, but sometimes there's nothing like a brand new clean reinstall and startin' over cleanly....

Of course, backup all your important data and files.......  Good luck.

Now if there is somebody out there that can figure out how to restore those deleted files that are in the recycle bin (hopefully) from the command prompt, you might be able to save it from the Geek Squad.

Looks to me like I need to send it back to DELL or goto Best Buy and get geek squad on the case.....

Finally got it running again but had to figure out how to get the WINDOWS XP disc to take. I lost all saved data bit that is OK. Spent a few days reloading all the other software and getting updates to get current. Good lesson for my 16 year old daughter; better now than when away at college I think....Thanks for the input from everyone. At least I found out there wasn't another, simpler option except for sending it backto DELL.... Maybe time to try a MAC...
