The following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM
My computer froze then I tried to restart it using Control+Alt+Delete
which did not work. I restarted it by turning the power off. When I
turned it back on it said "Windows could not start because the following
file is missing or corrupt: /WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows setup using the
original Setup CD-ROM. Select "r" at the first screen to start repair."
I am willing to try fixing the problem with the XP cd but I don't
think I have the original. I have one that says "Reinstallation CD
Microsoft Windows XP Professional". I don't want to erase any of the data on
my computer now i.e. I don't want to completely reinstall Windows -- I
just want to fix this problem! Can I follow the instructions listed for
this registry problem on the Windows website using this CD? Thanks!
