Thanks for answering, actually McAfee was installed as a part of AOL and done by AOL some time ago.Now AOL has its own Safety and Security Center and during the installation of this I was asked to remove previous McAfee software.I dont remember if it was done by AOL or I did it from Control Panel>Add/Remove.
Since you want to get rid of McAfee completely you have 2 options.
1. The clean uninstall
Add/Remove Programs won`t do it because the file is corrupted
a) Start/All Programs
Find McAfee (if it is there) and hover mouse over the name. If you are lucky a menu will pop out with an uninstall option in it
b) Search in C:\Programs for McAfee. Open the folder and search for an uninstaller. It will usually start with "un*****". You will have to search in subfolders too.
If you find one in any of these places it might be corrupted too and you will have to try the second option
2. The dirty uninstall
Start/Search and type in
McAfee
Delete all it finds.
You will then have to find it in the registry and clean it out
Start/Run and type in
regedit
Click Edit/Find and type in
McAfee
Delete all the keys it finds
The alternative to editing the registry yourself is to use a registry cleaner
after you have cleaned McAfee off the HD
Here is a good free one. Make sure in Options that the box is ticked to create backups before running it. I think it is set to do it by default
