To: The Powers That Be Re: Runaround

I posted this in the "Windows Vista: Order Status Pending" thread but decided it would get lost there and there would be no hope anybody at Dell with any ability to correct this situation would read it, so I am reposting it here, hoping to get a response from someone regarding my Vista Express Upgrade experience.

I am in the United States.  I ordered on November 29th 2006.  I have been in touch with Jackie, the customer advocate, and she assures me that the orders are being processed in first in first out order.  Here is a direct quote from one email from Jackie:

" I cannot make you believe that these are shipping in the first in, first out order since it appears that you have your mind made up that this is not the case.  I know this is the case.  . . . I am in constant contact with the fulfillment center and I know that the orders are shipped in the first in, first out order"

When I pointed out to her that there are many people on these boards who claim they have received Vista and had placed their orders after me she replied (another direct quote from the email):

"Without their order information, I cannot verify the information to be certain that they have or have not received the upgrade.  Honestly, too many get on these forums and post anything to get a rise out of people.  I mean no disrespect when I say this, but it is the truth."

A forum member who got an order confirmation, who placed his order on March 1st 2007, posted his order number, confirmation number, and DHL tracking number.  I emailed Jackie with this information and asked her to please check it out and explain it to me.  I haven't heard back from her.

I cannot express in full how angry I am at Dell.  Or should I just be angry at all of you people who are trying to get a rise out of me by pretending that you have gotten your Vista in something other than first in first out order?

IF the process is first-in first-out
AND you placed your order on November 29
THEN I won't be seeing mine before October or so at the speed things are going.

I placed my order on January 29, when the system FINALLY acknowledged my Service Tag that was bought on December 1.

I am in Canada, so that ought to add another month or two to my ship date.

Honestly, don't be too anxious to get Vista.

I received my laptop in December and Vista upgrade 3 weeks ago. That's when the real fun began. I was just as anxious as anyone to get Vista. It's running, but I'm not 100% functional. Some day, maybe new drivers will get my audio to sound undistorted on this "Multimedia PC".

Dell puts out some pretty slick ads. I get them in the mail every few weeks. Wish they spent less on advertising and more on software testing and support.

What really gets me is the laptop is sold as "Vista Compatatible". I did not receive Vista until the 21 day return policy was over. We'll it ain't compatable. Not as of today anyway.

If I had to do over again, I would buy a laptop from a local store. At least you can test drive the PC and return it if necessary.

Anyway, don't worry about when Vista arrives, and set lots of time aside for the install and troubleshooting that follows.

jrmarto,  I also ordered my upgrade 11/29/06 and I'm in the same boat as you. I am also dealing with Jackie getting the same results as you are so I know exactly how you feel.

Is there something with the Demension E520 and E521 that are holding up our upgrades?  Anyone with one of these Demensions that recieved their update?

I have an E521. system order date December 6, 2006. Vista Upgrade request completed 1/4/2007. I have two collegues, both purchased Dell laptops in January and both have their updates.

I don't buy the first in first out either.  I'm surprised Jackie is still giving that line.

I ordered mine December 15th, another guy I work with ordered his the same day, but not the E521 like I did. He got his upgrade last week, mine's still 'pending.'  I can't enter my E521 into the My Systems part of the page, I had nothing but headaches and hassles trying to get the lame upgrade site to accept my tag number, and the phone support gave me the old transfer-the-call and run routine.

This week we had to do the specs on the new PCs for work, the top line on the bid sheet says in bold letters - NO DELL SYSTEMS. That's about 1200 new orders for HP.

Since misery enjoys company I also received notice on 11.29.06 and have not received a thing. Must be something about that date that all of us are "first in, last out."

jmarto,

I, too, have been in contact with Jackie who assured me that, yes, it was "first-in-first-out." When I e-mailed her with the same receipt posted that you did, suddenly there were no more replies from Jackie. Guess that says a lot; Dell lied to us; Jackie lied to us (either intentionally because she towed the "corporate line" and gave us standard answers or worse yet, because Moduslink is not being truthful with Dell or their communication has totally broken down).

I, too, am extremely angry at how we have been treated and with the untruths and "stonewall" tactics that have been used by Dell. Unfortunately, there is just nothing we can do about this but tell as many people as possible how we were treated by Dell and never purchase another product from them. I think the only way Dell will ever change is if enough people become "fed up" and stop buying their products. I know that I, for one, will NEVER purchase another Dell product!

You should be glad you don't have Vista yet. I got it on a brand new XP410 a 2 weeks ago. The driver problems are unbelievable. They have been shipping new machines with Vista for a month but it is not ready for prime time. They are still working on driver solutions for the Creative X-Fi cards so my PC came with on-baord sound that couldn't play MP3s with out stuttering and static until I disavbled the sound enhancements and it only works as a half duplex card although it is supposed to be full duplex.

The dual TV tuner they gave me does not work. it took two hours last night for Tech help to figure out "must be a Vista problem".

Help files from older programs don't work anymore as MS is handling help files differently under Vista.

I used a SD card once and now everytime I startup Vista tells me I have to re-install thw WPD FileSystem drivers (which don't take).

My 4 year old Microtek scanner does not and probably will never get a functioning Vista driver. MusicMatch is not compatible, all kinds of video editting software problems are being reported.....

Stick with XP for while yet......

Pardon me for being cynical at this point.  My status was moved to "processing" from "pending" too. Until they provide the DHL shipping notification I'm assuming they've done this to all the pending accounts to make it look like something is happening.
