To: The Powers That Be Re: Runaround
I posted this in the "Windows Vista: Order Status Pending" thread but decided it would get lost there and there would be no hope anybody at Dell with any ability to correct this situation would read it, so I am reposting it here, hoping to get a response from someone regarding my Vista Express Upgrade experience.
I am in the United States. I ordered on November 29th 2006. I have been in touch with Jackie, the customer advocate, and she assures me that the orders are being processed in first in first out order. Here is a direct quote from one email from Jackie:
" I cannot make you believe that these are shipping in the first in, first out order since it appears that you have your mind made up that this is not the case. I know this is the case. . . . I am in constant contact with the fulfillment center and I know that the orders are shipped in the first in, first out order"
When I pointed out to her that there are many people on these boards who claim they have received Vista and had placed their orders after me she replied (another direct quote from the email):
"Without their order information, I cannot verify the information to be certain that they have or have not received the upgrade. Honestly, too many get on these forums and post anything to get a rise out of people. I mean no disrespect when I say this, but it is the truth."
A forum member who got an order confirmation, who placed his order on March 1st 2007, posted his order number, confirmation number, and DHL tracking number. I emailed Jackie with this information and asked her to please check it out and explain it to me. I haven't heard back from her.
I cannot express in full how angry I am at Dell. Or should I just be angry at all of you people who are trying to get a rise out of me by pretending that you have gotten your Vista in something other than first in first out order?

I received my laptop in December and Vista upgrade 3 weeks ago. That's when the real fun began. I was just as anxious as anyone to get Vista. It's running, but I'm not 100% functional. Some day, maybe new drivers will get my audio to sound undistorted on this "Multimedia PC".
Dell puts out some pretty slick ads. I get them in the mail every few weeks. Wish they spent less on advertising and more on software testing and support.
What really gets me is the laptop is sold as "Vista Compatatible". I did not receive Vista until the 21 day return policy was over. We'll it ain't compatable. Not as of today anyway.
If I had to do over again, I would buy a laptop from a local store. At least you can test drive the PC and return it if necessary.
Anyway, don't worry about when Vista arrives, and set lots of time aside for the install and troubleshooting that follows.
