Hey,

What you need to do is open Outlook express and under file there is a option that says import click on that and go through the Wizard that says import emails/and email address book. Once you go through that wizard your emails as well as your address book should be back in there. Although you will need to reset up your email server settings. If you do not know how to do that let me know and I can walk you through it.

Create a folder and call it Mail ( or anything for now ) . . copy all the .dbx files into that folder . . then in OE, click on File . . Import . . and navigate to the "Mail" folder you created to have it import the messages

I have saved folders such as "saved2006", "saved2005", etc. containing presumably my saved e-mail.  The e-mail had been saved by dragging the folders from Windows Explorer to a CD prior to replacing the hard drive. In the saved folders presumably are my saved e-mails. Upon selecting import in Outlook Express, it asks for a program to import from such as Microsoft Outlook Express 4 or Microsoft Outlook Express 6.  I have chosen OE 6. Then it asks for location of the email which I have specified as the Desktop folder called EMAIL which contains  the saved email folders mentioned above.  Upon doing that a box appears stating "No message can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open. etc.  Would might you suggest to retrieve the email? Thank you for your kind attention.

you have to point the import process to a folder containing the .dbx files . . not to folders with folders . .

The "folders" "Saved2005", "Saved2006"  that were saved and dragged to a CD from Windows Explorer (each contain several MB of e-mails) are ".dbx files" and don't appear as folders when trying to import in Outlook Express. Therefore it won't proceed to import.  Am I misunderstanding something?

Try copying the folders with the email in them to the hard drive before importing . . sometimes OE struggles with imoprting from a cd.  Also, I hope you copied them when you "drug" to the cd rather than created shortcuts . . which is easy to do

I did copy the "files" to the hard drive (whole "folders" from OE containing the e-mail-- each containing several MB of e-mail and presumably not "short-cuts").  But upon attempting to import, the "file" is not interpreted as a folder and therefore not shown when trying to find upon browsing for them.

Where did those names come from saved5 & saved06?

If you can attach the original drive you shoud be able to import directly from it . .

Saved05 and Saved 06 are names of folders under "Local Folders"  in Outlook Express (just like "Inbox", "Outbox",........) These are folders in which I saved e-mails that originated via Hotmail received via Outlook Express.

OK . I think I understand . . did it import the other folders ok?

If those came from another program other than OE, you may have to import differently . .

The only e-mail saved were in the folders mentioned. I have been unable to import the email from the saved folders.
The folders were under "Local Folders" in the OE tree.

So, there is no way to view the saved emails............is there another program of which you are aware that can open the mail for viewing?
