Turning off pop-up blocker
Hi,
I am trying to open e-mails sent to my aol account over the internet. Every time I click to open a message it makes a popping sound and on the bottom left hand corner of the page comes up a explanation mark and message saying "A pop-up window was blocked"
Is there any way I can stop this. I have turned off the pop-up blocker in internet explorer but this does not help. I have norton antivirus 2005 on but this does not have a pop-up blocker that I know of.
I can open these messages on any other computer yet my own laptop which is odd.
Thanks

This should prevent the pop up blocker from preventing your emails from opening.
...and depending on your version of Norton AV, or Norton IS, they can be equiped with a pop-up blocker.

Okay, there are several ways you can have pop-ups or Ads blocked and in every legitimate case you should be able to (hold down CTRL and click) and all should be good.
I guess what I am getting is that something else might be going on. Try this for now tho.
If you are using internet explorer goto tools, Internet options and disable pop-up blocker. As for AOL, your on your own unfortunately.
To disable the pop blocker in Norton Internet Security (NIS), take the following steps:
1. Close your Internet browser
2. Double click on the NIS icon. It should appear on your desktop and in the lower right hand corner of the computer as a blue and green “earth.”
3. A window will appear with options to control several parts of the NIS program.
4. Click on the words “Ad Blocking” to activate that part;
5. Then click on “configure” in the lower right of the screen
6. On the next window, make sure to UNCHECK the box next to “Turn on Pop Up Window Blocking”
7. Click OK at the bottom of the window.
If you have any toolbars installed (ie, google, msn, yahoo, etc) they can also have a popup blockers, each has a way to disable it. CTRL is one and normal you can click on where it shows you where its blocking.
If you having difficulty with this goto control panel, add/remove programs and remove any toolbars listed. If you see anything like mysearch toolbar, or a toolbar you dont recogize in this list please tell me about it. Removing it might be difficult.
G'luck.

If your surfing with AOL and using their AOL 9.0 Security Edition I would advise living with the control key! Turning off the popup blocker would be baaad.
Cheers,
