Unable to download

Thank you Rich. I would be happy to listen to the doc and use Windows Explorer except I don't use dial-up and that seems to be the only thing I can get Explorer to use. I'm sorry I'm no genius. I'm barely computer literate but am trying.

I don't use Microsoft Explorer and prefer FireFox.
But you need to use IE if you are downloading Microsoft UPDATES. Also you should use Windows Update to download the hated MS updates to windows and IE. You use windows and IE is bundled with windows.

So MS has got you for now.

IE is a free download or you can update the version you have.

Thank you JoCase. Of course I should use Windows Internet Explorer...that is the main problem. I can't get Microsoft to tell me how to do it nor Dell unless I pay $100.00. That doesn't help me (they wouldn't let me use the prohibited word that begins with s and ends in ks)

I guess I'll just buy a new computer WITHOUT software already loaded on it. That would probably be my best choice. (i'm being silly - but I am frustrated).

Other problem is that I'm not that smart about computers. I think I'm pretty good unless something like this comes up and I can't get any help for it.

Oh well. Thanks for your answer anyway.

in IE . . click on Tools . . Internet Options . . click on the Connection tab . . put a check in the " Never dial a connection"

OK I'm still trying to get to IE. When I go to "All Programs" in the Start menu and click on Internet Explorer it comes up with a message from Google.com to Century.Tel.net which is my DSL provider. I'm going to contact them and see if they can help me. Sharon

Don't go long without Service pack 2. My sister did that and it took two days to get her computer virus clean and all updates installed. Although I got breakfast and lunch both days!

I did what you SAID. In IE - Tools - OPTIONS...Internet
Then I get to choose CONNECTION SETTINGS

And then.....I can choose
DIRECT CONNECTION TO THE INTERNET
AUTO-DETECT SETTINGS FOR THIS NETWORK
MANUAL PROXY CONFIGURATION
AUTOMATIC PROXY CONFIGURAGTION URL

I'm freaked.....what to do?

Yes, the only one checked at the moment is DIRECT CONNECTION TO THE INTERNET
But I don't have the choice "never did a connection".
