Unable to install Service Pack 1
For what ever reason Service Pack 1 will not install in XP Home. I have tried it on 2 seperate trys and after rebooting iis not installed.
Visits to Windows Update show that the service pack needs to be installed. Anyone have any ideas? We need to have SP1 installed before eventually putting SP2 on this machine.
We have a Dell Dimensiion 4400, P4 1.6 with 256 Gigs of RAM. Windows XP Home Edition.
Thanks

CMKM,
Service pack 2 includes all of the updates that were included in Service Pack 1. You do not need to install SP1 before SP2.

Mel,
I recently installed sp2 and everything was fine until I decided to upgrade the driver for my 128 ATI Radeon TX. I downloaded the lastest driver from Dell and installed it. Then my problems began. The system began to hang during boot-up. I would get a blue screen with message stating it was having a problem with ATI2DVAG. I spent hours with Dell Tech support. We tried many diffent things to try to resolve the problem but they finally suggested that I uninstall sp2. I am now back to sp1 but now I'm having the a blue screen "Unkown Hard Error". The only way to get aroun the is to disable my Radeon display adapters. This in turn seems to cause display problems and now my DVD playback is choppy.
Is it time for me to reinstall XP sp1? If so, can you advise me on issues with the reinstall? I'm reading the instructions on how to reinstall but its always good to get feedback from people who have preformed the process.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Paul
