unidentifiable icon on desktop

I have an unidentifiable icon on my desktop with this ~ under it.  I notice that it appears when I go on line or check email.  I have deleted it and have attempted to remove it from my computer without success.  Does anyone know what this is and why it keeps returning and what can I do to stop it?

Do a forum search for 'tilde'. It's connected, I believe, with your address book and is nothing serious. It's more of an annoyance than anything else.

I think it's connected with a Microsoft update.

If you want to cofirm its Address Book  , right click on Icon & Rename to  ~.txt
then double click on Icon.
Could could also try before Renaming , right click select Properties & check "Hidden"  , Apply.
