george v,

The 11/2/03 update to the Spybot database included PowerScan. Download Spybot from here. Run its update before you run the program to scan your system, then run a scan and remove all the items that Spybot lists as problems. That should remove PowerScan.

DENNY

I DOWNLOADEDED SPYBOT AND STILL GETTING POPUPS , IT HAS SEEM TO SLOW THEM DOWN BUT THEY ARE GETTING THROUGH AFTER AWHILE. POWERSCAN IS STILL PART OF MY STARTUP AND WHEN I CLICK ABOUT POWERSCAN I GET A UNINSTALL ICON BUT WHEN I HIT IT I GET A SEARCH PAGE. THIS IS BECOMING VERY FRUSTRATING! FIRST BECAUSE I AM A DINOSAUR WHEN IT COMES TO COMPUTERS AND SECONDLY BECAUSE OF MY STROKE I CAN ONLY TYPE WITH MY RIGHT HAND AND HAVE TO LOOK AT THE KEYBOARD AND THE POPUPS STOP MY TYPING MID-WORD

You must update spsybot before you run it each time - its in the 'online' part on spybot on the left had side. Then get spybot to scan your computer and delete all that it finds.

If that does not work then, work through the rest of this my regular malware post:-

Use these to remove Malware (Spyware and Adware).
Spybot S&D
Ad-Aware
Cwshredder
With all of these download them, install (after unzip if required), download the latest signature/update file, run, delete all that they find.

Failing those solving your problems a post of a hijackthis log for the experts to advise.
HijackThis From Here
Download, run, scan, save log, then in notepad copy the FULL log by copy and paste to a post in one of these specialist spyware removal forums:-
http://tomcoyote.org/forums/index.php
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php
http://www.net-integration.net/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi
http://boards.cexx.org/index.php
DO NOT FIX ANYTHING WITH HIJACKTHIS WITHOUT EXPERT ADVICE, most of what it finds you need for normal MS Windows tasks.
Do read the sites FAQ before posting, and advise your problem and what steps you have already done to try to cure your problem.

I am in all those sites as ChrisRLG. You might get me, but any of the more problematic ones are handled by the experts. If you get a 'advanced member' like me, we have other ways of asking for advice from the experts, to pass on to you.

You could post your log here in this thread (if in the Virus Information and Removal Board - if not post in that board not in this thread), and I will have a go at giving advice, but if you go to one of the more specalist forums more experts will be able to help.

I had powerscan on my laptop for a while.  I don't recall which/what version it was.  I had put it on there but decided to remove it.  Couldn't find it in my add/remove progams menu, but if you opened up powerscan and click on the top toolbar and look under "About" it'll show you a selection choice to uninstall powerscan.  Click on that and it will take you to a URL/website (need to be connected to the internet) to download the uninstall program.  Then you run the uninstall program.  Worked for me, hopefully this info will help and work for you.
