Updating from AO3 Bios

Question

One of my dell computers is a Dell Inspiron N5110 with a AO3 Bios but I want to update it to A11, how do I go about doing that? I tried the reccommded ones but don't work d/t bios being Ao3 and not a10 or a9.  Any recommendations? I am trying to utilize Wind 8.1, but get a black screen, and they suggested that the bios is the issue.

Hello. Dell does not support Win 8.1 on the Inspiron 15R N5110. I suggest you post on the Microsoft OS section of this forum where natakuc4 or other regular there should be able to help you get it working.

You can get the various BIOS versions from the Dell ftp site. You might have to update to some intermediate versions before you can go from A03 to A11 -- I don't know.

A word of caution, if you attempt to update BIOS and the attempt fails and bricks the motherboard, Dell will fix it only if you are still under warranty or if a Dell employee tells you to upgrade. To get a Dell employee to tell you to do it, go to facebook and ask a question of one of the Dell social media people who post there. They routinely tell people to update the BIOS.

Unfortunately Dell are not letting you update directly to the latest version like they used to i.e. they have not made all the BIOS updates cumulative in all cases. The installation instructions for the BIOS update also need a lot of work.

Since the A11 BIOS update is giving you the error message that it requires A10 or A09 then its best you try to install A10 first.

If the A10 update also gives you another error message stating that you need version A05 or A06 for instance take the latest version of the 2 (A06) and attempt to install it. Then try the A10 update. Then install A11.

You essentially need to try and install the latest version it lets you directly as you want to minimise the amount of times you flash the system.

Most BIOS Updates are cumulative so the latest version can be installed directly. If they aren't an error message will tell you that an older version is required first and the update will abort. Its recommended to take the least number of steps to get an up to date system where possible

Regarding the BIOS update. A failed BIOS Update = a bricked machine. BIOS updates very rarely fail however.

Save the BIOS update to the Desktop and make sure there are no programs running. Make sure its plugged in and has decent battery. Right click the BIOS update and select run as an administrator.

Hello Philip,

I badly need dell n5110a11 bios of old version dated 2012-09-13 2MB file. I’m unable to find it anywhere. My laptop became very slow after updating to new bios from dell site.

this really . Actually system speed and performance should improve if bios is updated. But the reverse is happening.

Also dell website has listed wrong version A03 as new.
