Upgrade XPS 8700 to Win 8.1

Has anyone been successful upgrading an XPS 8700 from win 8 to 8.1?  If so how did you do it?  Nothing seems to work for me and I get no help from Dell support.

Tried all of this in the past.  Nothing works.  Dell has apparently installed a defective copy of Windows 8 on my computer.  Three technicians have tried to help and have been unable to upgrade my system to Windows 8.1.

I have a new out of the box windows 8 XPS 8700 also. When I go to the Store it tells me I have an upgrade to 8.1 waiting to be done. When I try to do it, it tells me I need and account that is an administrator to do it. Of course my account is already and administrator account???

Also when I use window update to check for the 8.1 update it says no updates available. ????

Dell have not loaded Windows 8 correctly on your system. Request a Windows 8 Reinstallation DVD and clean install or better yet find a means of obtaining a Windows 8.1 .iso as Microsoft won't let Dell provide you with it and clean install. Unfortunately there are no means of officially downloading a Windows 8.1 .iso directly from Microsoft for an OEM license.

For more details see windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean Install of Windows 8.1:

If planning to clean install with a Windows 8.1 .iso you need to follow the workarounds here due to the difficulties Microsoft made in obtaining the "free" update:

If you don't wish to clean install then you may also try the workaround of uninstalling KB287139:

However I recommend a clean install.

Been there, done that.  I use the Administer account in the User Accounts section.  I can get win 8.1 to start to download and then it aborts.  Dell has screwed something up in loading win 8.

kb2871389 has been deleted and re-installed three times on my computer.  That isn't the answer.

I too had the same problem: the procedure for upgrade via Microsoft representative which deletes one security patch for Windows 8 sets you up for a scam and entry into your computer data. Scammers got all my data confirmed by 26 sign in accesses to my computer from a location (not available) and shortcuts in my trash can with were my scans of my social security number and my PA birth certificate. I contracted ITechLine to restore my system because they locked me out of my new computer. ITechLine representative told me they have about 25 customers daily with the same problem. It's an entrapment scam on the Dell XPS 8700 computer assembled in Mexico and transported by FedEx in El Paso. Both Microsoft and Dell are aware of the scam with the comment: "What can we do?"
