Upgrading from 95' to 98' Need MS-Dos Update!

Hey,

I'm sure if this the proper forum, but I'll post this problem anyways.

My wifes pc is a Dell Dimension XPSD266 with windows 95

I was taking her 4gig hardrive and making it a slave drive, and added my old (Re-Formatted)
Quantum Fireball 10gig hard drive as the master. All jumpers were set correctly.

I began the windows 98 install, and it was going ok. It restarted itself and I had to add the
serial number, and it continued with the installation, then suddenly I received an error
message saying the ms-dos version isn't compatible with the 98 version.

How to I upgrade the dos version?

Thanks,

Robert

For a better response, try posting this in the Software - Windows 98/95/3.1/DOS forum http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board?board.id=sw_win98

Robert,

Did you wipe the Win95 HD before you started the upgrade? It may be set as slave, but possibly the 98 OS install is seeing Win95 on the old HD? Maybe try unplugging the win95 HD and then do the upgrade. If that works, you probably need to reformat the old HD -after saving all the data files to the new HD- to get rid of the 95 system files.
