Upgrading to Windows 7 problem..
Hi everyone, here is some background information:
I know nothing about computers. I own a Dell XPS M1530. It has 4 GB of RAM and a T8300 2.4 GHz processor. Also, my graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT. I am running a 64-bit version of Windows. I downloaded the Windows 7 Home Premium file from Digital River for the student discount. I downloaded it wirelessly.
I ran the upgrade check to make sure my computer was compatible. All the major requirements were fulfilled, except a few programs which might not be compatible. I removed a couple and upgraded a couple. There are still a few which may not be compatible, but I don't see how that could be the problem.
So after doing that, I attempted to upgrade. I cannot get past the second stage (I think it's the one where it gathers files and programs) of the upgrade. I get different types of "corrupt file" errors, and I have no clue what they mean or where they could be coming from. I figure it might be my hard drive, so I ran some diagnostics after calling Dell. I tried the one where you hold the 'function key' and turn the computer on. Nothing seems to be wrong, and all the tests were passed.
My computer is only 8 or 9 months old... can anybody help? I've heard that it might be because I downloaded the file wirelessly, and one or more of the files may have gotten messed up in the process. What could be the problem? Microsoft is calling me tomorrow to help finish resolving the issue, but so far, they have been of no help and maybe somebody here could help me.
Thank you for all your time and help.
- Nick

I would back up my important data and do a clean install of W7, upgrades rarely go well.
Go to this link and register your PC, then you can download any of your preinstalled software that came with your Dell, reinstall it after W7 is installed.
