Upgrading to Windows 8 on Aurora R4
I am looking for help. Having read a lot of posts re upgrading to Windows 8 I am somewhat confused. My system is an Alienware Aurora R4 Win 7 64 bit OS with the boot in the BIOS set to UEFI. Is this what dell refers to as "Safe Boot"? If I change it to Legacy, will my computer still work in its present configuration Win 7 64 bit OS.?
If I then upgrade to Windows 8 do I have to delete all partitions, reinstall Win 7 and then upgrade to Win 8.
Very grateful for any insight
Dave

Hi OB88,
Secure boot is a feature in BIOS to protect the computer from low-level exploits and rootkits and bootloaders. Microsoft has added this feature in Windows 8 operating system to give more security to the computer.
This security process is shared between the operating system and UEFI BIOS.
You can change the UEFI BIOS to legacy but you may have to reinstall the Windows on the computer.
There is no need to delete any partitions on the system when you upgrade to Windows 8.
Note: Alienware Aurora R4 has latest BIOS and drivers compatible for Windows 8.Please update the BIOS and then upgrade to Windows 8 operating system.
Please let me know if this helps.

Thanks for the prompt reply, but just to be sure - I should do the following in sequence:-
1. change UEFI to legacy in BIOS - Boot and reinstall windows 7 if necessary
2. Update the BIOS - could you clarify update to which version or do you mean legacy boot
3. Upgrade to Windows 8
Sorry to be a bit nitpicky but want to be sure I don't muck it up
Thanks
Dave

Hi OB88,
To upgrade to windows 8 on your computer you will have to update to latest windows 8 BIOS update and then upgrade to Windows 8 operating system.
I see that you want to change the BIOS from UEFI to legacy. I’d like to know why do you want to change to legacy BIOS so that I could suggest you further course of action.
Please reply for any queries.

Thanks for the reply. As I said before I am a bit confused as it says on the Dell website that I have to disable Safe Boot. The only ref I have seen to this is to change UEFI to legacy as I can find no function in the BIOS for Safe Boot. I amyy have misunderstood totally. Sorry for the late reply but my internet has been down since Saturday
Thanks
Dave

Hi OB88,
I’d like to know where you found the information that you need to change the BIOS from UEFI to Legacy.
I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request by clicking on my name highlighted in blue and then click on “Friends” tab at the top and then click on “Request to Review” and finally click on “Accept” button.
I am sending you a private message as well. Click on “Inbox” to respond to the message and provide the system’s Service Tag and contact details so I may access your system records and check for further course of action. You could also click on Start Conversation to send a private message.

I did the upgrade but when it comes to the windows 8 screen logo at boot it keeps loading for too long and then reboots.
