USB Driver Inspiron 9200
When I plug-in my new external HD to my USB port I get this message 'that the USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a high-speed USB 2.0 port...'
I think that I need to reload my USB drivers but can't seem to find the right one from the Dell driver list.
Can someone help me, please?

I've got XP Pro SP2. I'm not very savy at this. My external hard drive runs extremely slow as does an external DVD rom - both on USB.
Do you have any suggestions as to what I should do? Thanks, again.

Try going into Device Manager and removing all USB root hubs. The reboot and let Windows reinstall the USB root hubs. It should do this automatically. See if that fixes it.

The USB drivers are included in the chipset drivers for your motherboard and at least Windows XP SP1.

Nope. I remove all the USB root hubs and rebooted. It reinstalled but I still get the message that there's no hi-speed USB host controllers installed on this computer.
Device mgr shows: Intel (R) 82801DB/DBM USB Host Controller - 24C2, 24C4 and 24C7
Message further states 'the USB mass storage device will function at a reduced speed. You must add a Hi-speed USB host controller to obtain maximum performance.'
Thanks for helping me... do you have any other ideas?

Go into Device Manager and expand the listing for Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Is there a line that says ..."USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller?

No "Enhanced"... just these lines that read:
Intel (R) 82801 DB/DBM USB Host Controller - 24C2
Intel (R) 82801 DB/DBM USB Host Controller - 24C4
Intel (R) 82801 DB/DBM USB Host Controller - 24C7
USB Mass Storage Device
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
I uninstalled everything again even in safe mode and then rebooted to let the system redetect but it still did not work.

Well that explains the message you are getting because the system does not recognize that you have USB 2.0 ports. Try downloading and installing the chipset drivers from:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R86238&SystemID=INS_PNT_P4_9200&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=1134&devlib=0&typecnt=1&vercnt=1&formatcnt=1&fileid=112921
Once installed, reboot and look in Device Manager to see if the enhanced USB 2.0 controller shows up. If it doesn't again remove all USB root hubs from Device Manager, reboot, and check again for the enhance USB 2.0 listing.

Hey Steve, works great! I can't thank you enough for your help. After I bought the laptop I upgraded to XP Pro and obviously did not load the chipset drivers... DUH!
