Vista 64 bit disk also contain 32 bit version?

If the system is pre-installed with vista 64-bit, then you can be assured that there are drivers for your system for 64-bit.  The only problem you "might" run into is if you try to install some old software or hardware that you can not live without that only runs on 32-bit and there are no plans at all that the company is going to make 64-bit drivers.

 

Just about everyone jumping on the 64-bit bandwagon and Microsoft has stated that they have seen a dramatic increase of 64-bit updates.  64-bit is the future and it is here now.

 

I can not answer your question directly because I went from 32-bit to 64-bit and I obtained the 64-bit version per request.  It was the best move I could have made for my system. 

I just ordered the 64bit reinstall disk to see what I could do. The hardware tech warranty person just had to verify my OS version of 32bit vista ultimate. Its also no charge. the driver disk is also suppose to be coming. 

Garred you mentioned you obtained the 64-bit version by request.  Did you request it from Dell? I'm asking becuase I just ordered the Studio 15 with 4 Gigs of ram and to my surprise they didn't upgrade my OS to take advantage of the added ram.  I have been chatting with Dell reps but it seems that their not sure about differences between the versions of OS.

Depending on which version of Vista you bought with your Studio system, the upgrade can be had through DELL itself. I just recieved the package in the mail from DELL which contained the 64bit OS reinstall disk and the drivers for my system. I have yet to update my system to the 64-bit Vista Ultimate from the 32bit vista ultimate. Dell Techs say they may/may not have all the drivers for the 64-bit vista and I might have to go to the hardware manufactures for the drivers. Also, see below: Per DEL-Bill B posting -

1. Per Dell policy, if you purchased 32 bit Vista  of any version, you are entitled to the 64 bit DVD of the same version upon request, with the caveat that Dell does not provide complete 64 bit driver support for all platforms. XP 32-to-64 bit is excluded from this policy. Consumer (aka Home and Home Office) purchases are not eligible for the 64 bit DVD as of June 3. This is subject to change.
2. For customers in the U.S. region, your best bet to get the DVD is from tech support. It will help if you can use a little Dell lingo to point them in the right direction. If the agent seems unaware of the policy, or unwilling to dispatch the DVD, you might try quoting the Dell policy document something like this: "I know I am entitled to this DVD. If you would kindly check DSN policy document ID 158098, 5th bullet under Policy, first sub-bullet."
3. This is supposed to be a global policy, but I can not say for certain it applies in all regions, and agents in other regions may not be able to access the same internal document using the same document ID.

Thank you that helps alot.  I know they have version of the Studio 15 that comes with Vista 64. So hopefully i can install with little to know problems.

I finally called Dell support and the confirmed that the 64 bit Dell disks do not contain the 32 bit version. However Dell's free upgrade from 32 bit makes sense since the consumer version of 32 bit Vista Untimate also contains the 64 bit version. I confirmed that my DSL modem, printer and programs will work on 64 bit Vista so I went ahead and ordered a quad core Studio Slim system with 8 GM ram and 64 bit pre-installed. Adobe's new Creative Suite programs are now 64 bit so it seems we are finally inching that way. No doubt more 64 bit programs will be forthcoming from others.
