Vista Firewall with advance security settings

Hi all,

Anybody got some advice on how I can make the windows firewall more secure? I  guess it set with the default settings. Any suggestion would help. Thanks

Microsoft is one of the richest, but dumbest corporation on this planet.  They have all this money, but always give us half a glass of everything, and not the full glass when it comes to its firewall, defrag program, and many other things.  Trying to understand how to set the firewall will take someone who knows what they are doing, and nothing from Microsoft tells us really how.  Thank you very much Mr. Bill Gates.

Zone Alarm has just come out with the firewall 7.1 version for Vista, so I would by-pass Microsoft, and get a stand a lone firewall instead.   My Friday morning rant of the day....

How to make the Windows Firewall more secure?  Easy...don't open attachments and get behind a router.

Agreed! Use a router. Much better than messing around with software firewalls which can sometimes be more pain than gain. Also, software firewalls dont work as well as a router, configuring them properly can be challenging, and they can be quite annoying -asking for confirmation for a lot of silly things. Also try to avoid using Internet Exploder.

Router + Opera = reasonably secure surfing.

Just be sure to configure the router to drop ping on the WAN side, not all come configured this way.

Not as secure as Router + IE7 and Vista with UAC turned on. The protected mode operation of IE7 makes it one of the most secure pieces of sofware on your PC.

Found this article on PCWorld.

It is about a program called Vista Firewall Control. It allows a user to control outbound connections - something Windows Firewall doesn't normally allow a person to do.

I have been using this for about two weeks now and it works well.

It totally blocks IE by default, too funny, looks like a sweet add on. Thanks again, post this in other area's of the forum.
