Vista Home Premium or Ultimate

I am sure ether one would work for your needs you would have to check to see if your software will work with Vista as in your games and the version of office you use, a lot does not work with Vista if you read this forum most of the answers to your questions can be found here.

Is Vista okay to buy now? I am afraid because I do not want to buy the computer with Vista and have problems.

Hi the only thing i can tell you is that i have used Vista for around 8 months now with very few problems the computer will run slow for a few days until it gets indexed the Dell computers i have work well from the start but a little slow to start the same with the ones i have built i think Vista is ready now the heck with SP1 by the time it comes out i will be ready for it but others will disagree with that use you ideas on that. 

And you may have problems with it i can,t tell you if you will or not as in what software and hardware you or Dell puts on Vista that will affect it.

Even  if you use XP, you will have problems, so I think it´s better to start using the newest things and learn how to fix them.

Vista Ultimate have some extra features Home Premium doesn´t has, but they are not very usefull if you will use it just to play music, edit pics, play games

   I think I may go with Home Premium. I liked the dreamscene feature on Ultimate. I don't think Home Premium has that extra. What more does Ultimate have more then Home Premium? Would you think Home Premium would be more like XP Media Center. My Dell Inspiron E1505 is running XP Media Center and that is fine for all of my uses.

 Hi i would have to tell you yes  i have tested every version of Vista 32\64 bit you name it i have did it and i always come back to Vista Ultimate it is on all of my systems now and with what you see below in my specs.:smileyvery-happy:

Thanks for the reply. You were a big help. Before I end this topic if I choose Vista Ultimate will I beable to make the computer wireless? My house has 3 computers all running XP and 2 of the computers have wireless cards. I have a wireless router in my home. Is Vista Ultimate capable if I buy a wireless card for it? Like a USB Wireless card that I can plug in the USB port of the computer?

Home p does not have dreamscens and the thing i like about Ulti is you can do a complete PC backup format your hard drive and then restore every thing with the DVD and do a restore from a file that you put on a ext usb drive right back to the way it was before

you formatted the drive it has faxing and other stuff that does not come to me right now but to me it is by far the best!!!

 

 Yes i have 2 that are wireless and one that is wired now networking i have not did that yet i would be lost on that just make sure you get Vista ready cards and usb will work make sure the drivers says it will work.

C3PO5,   Would you recomend Ultimate? When I asked Dell about it they told me Ultimate was like XP Pro. More for Buisness and easier networking then Mutimedia needs. I use the computer alot and all of the time I use it I use it to store and edit my photos and videos, play games etc.

The only thing that Ultimate will do for you is the ability to connect to a Domain and if you don't need that, whey spend the money?  But on the other hand, it's only a few dollars and you can use the upgrade retail discs to perform a clean install.
