vista opinion,s

The only issues I have had are the normal growing pains and the learning curve. I have been using for quite some time as a beta tester etc... I have moved on from 32 bit to 64 bit and I am very comfortable with it. I don't understand why you would have more problems with Trogans and the like??? I have had none. I feel like I am going backward when I sit at a WinXP machine...

If I were experiencing the same problems that others have, then I would really dislike VISTA, but I have had few, if any issues and I like it.  So using that logic, I have many problems I fix at work in which we use XP.  So I dislike XP a lot.  Networkign issues, blue screens, printer problems...etc.

Since I have not had the problems like others I can say that VISTA works well for me as far as an operating system.  Then I look at the asthetic stuff.

Silly as it sounds I like the aero package and the look.  I tried other appearences, like classic, standard, etc.  and they were just awful looking to me.  Nothing like the see through windows, etc.  My wife loves the feature when you click the Windows key and the tab key and the windows are layered.  I love the fact that when I have 6 or 7 windows open I can click CTRL-TAB and instead of the e for Internet Explorer or just an icon, you actually see the window and what it is.  Those things I like.

But I keep hearing that it will disappear just like ME, well so be it.  I have 6 pcs with VISTA....I will selectively purchase an upgrade (depends on when the new windows comes out....if it's delayed and doesn't show up until 2011 or 2012, I won't need to upgrade as I'll probably be buying new pcs with it anyway) for my systems and just move forward.

And it really depends on what people consider problems.  Some are very valid and others, not so much.  My mom was upset because when she opened windows mail and clicked send/receive the little window that opens and shows you it's donwloading messages appears in the lower right, instead of the center.  She is upset by this as she paid a lot of money and expects it to be where she wants it.   Of course I asked my folks whether they liked XP or VISTA better and my father replied, "What the heck is Xp and VISTA?"

I loaded vista X64 on my XP machine in a dual  boot config to test it out...within 1 week i had trashed XP an won't go back.

The Os has handled everything i have thrown at it. The only real sort of issue i had was my plam sync manager, won't work with the usb as there are no drivers, the work around use my wireless..Works like a champ and is actually faster than the USB..

i respectfully disagree.  i have been running vista since october last year and have not run into any significant problem.  there have been a few glitches here and there, i suppose, but nothing that wasn't remedied right away after looking the issue up here or on the rest of the intertubes.  the only major problem i encountered forced me to purchase a new wireless adapter card, but only because the manufacturer of the adapter i had failed/refused/neglected to put out a vista driver and so i had to get one that had those drivers available. 

if you're having problems with trojans, you might want to look into getting a better antivirus as an OS generally doesn't cause trojan viruses to appear on your system. 

The reason I don't use Vista is that my main applications don't work with it, so I'm tied to XP. I personally don't like half the RAM being taken up in my laptop when it idles.

Vista has it's advantages sure, but for me it doesn't offer anything XP doesn't - If I wanted to I'd modify XP with the Aero theme and all the other visual features. 

I always maintain if Ubuntu would take my everday applications and games I'd dump Microsoft and Windows.

But unfortunately we live in a world of Windows. :(

I got VISTA in Feb. '07 when it first came out on my DELL XPS410.

It runs all older software I have.  All my peripherals, ie, printers, scanner, camera software....work fine.

My dinosaur DELL XPST700, or something like that, that came with Windows 98SE is still running but on XP now and 3x the initial memory it came with.  It is a slug.  But I didn't know it until I got my new computer.  I have an Inspirion 1725 coming....hopefully, if DELL ever builds it, and it too will have VISTA.

It seems people who have older, by older I mean pre-VISTA computers, are the ones that are having trouble with it.

Well, of all the problems with Vista, "trojans" have nothing to do with it. Hopefully, you run virus and spyware scanners. Watch where you browse. But I agree with the general premise that Vista is a disaster.

IMHO yes, Vista is the Windows ME of the 21st century. Back in the day, there were lots of cheerleaders for ME as well. They raved about how great it was, how stable it was. That didn't make it a good or stable OS by any means. The Vista supporters of today are just repeating history.

I am in the process of collecting XP drivers for my Inspiron 1501 and have an XP Pro order into Amazon (free shipping takes a while!). Although I have not had software compatability problems (I don't run old non-Vista apps), XP on my P4 desktop is visibly faster in 1/4 the memory. It's also a lot more stable than Vista could ever hope to be.

If Office 2007 (a good product with an awful interface), my bread and butter, ran natively on Ubuntu 8.04... or if OpenOffice had a math editor updated from the 1980s-think...  I'd be there in a flash. Faster than even XP, rock solid, and it doesn't let user apps crash the OS.

sort of looks like a lot of vista supporters,,,that is for sure...i have vista basic on my new laptop from dell,,,and it seems to be more responsive than my home premium on my desktop, but there is less bloatware too with basic. i might load home premium on my dell rig,, and see how i like it, only problem i cannot use home basic on my desktop that came with my dell...i don,t like that, boo microshaft.
