This site has all the info on the upgrade program:

It's a little slow today due to the Vista launch, we're working on that.

What I would like is an explanation as to why it is going to take you guys 6-8 weeks to ship a product that is available now & you are shipping now with new pc's?

I hear what you are saying but I am having a hard time understanding why Dell is not able to ship this when the RTM has been available for some time & they have had plenty of time to prepare for the upgrades.

I am not trying to get on you Aaron but you have to understand the frustrations of not only myself but everyone that bought into the express upgrade & now are getting the shaft from Dell. As suggested earlier why can there not be a downloadable version or at least give us our keys.. I will find a download myself & wait. Any help from you will be greatly appreciated.

Aaron,
Why do I have to wait 6-8 weeks to receive my express upgrade when I could of ordered my computer on Saturday and have it with Vista in 10 days? Is this because Dell wanted my money before X-mas(11/17/06)? I believe I was misled and your promotion very deceiving. Just an honest answer please.

As I understand it, the upgrade media for OEMs is not manufactured in advance in the same way that retail upgrade media is. It is manufactured based on the number of people who redeem  the upgrade offers, then sent out to that exact number of people. The kits we're shipping out with Vista this time around contain media with BIOS and driver upgrades as well, many of which were developed recently. Again, this is my understanding and there may be several other factors involved.

Aaron,
Some of us bought and registered our express version of Vista more than a month ago. Why were our copies not ordered then? Or were they and we will receive ours  sooner than those who just bought last week?

At least you guys can get onto the Express Upgrade site and place your order. :)

I received my system November 30th and the site still says my system does not quailfy. Have made over 10 calls to Dell, filled out quite a few online forms to have my problem escalated and still no reply from Dell or a resolution to my problem. I have very little confidence that the site will accept my service tag by March 31st and at that time I will no longer be eligible for the free upgrade. I can't even return my system as I am over the 30day limit. When I called dell yesterday, about the 11th call to them, I got the most asinine response that  have ever heard from Cheryl (Emp# 71128) saying that www.dellvistaupgrade.com website is run and administered by Microsoft and that Dell has no control over it.

This really s as I bought the system based on the upgrade coupon and now it looks like my tag is not even recognized and that Dell is not taking any interest in resolving my issue.

No idea what other options I have at this stage and what action to take if the promotion should expire before I can redeem my coupon.

I got mine about a month ago... but regardless this should not even be an issue. They knew when the release date was. I still want a straight answer & want to know what Dell is doing to resolve this.

not a joke, thats what they told me over the phone. My jaw hit the floor when they told me that. One of the reasons I bought my computer when I did was for the "Express" upgrade to Vista. There is no excuse they can give that will justify 6-8 weeks after release. None!

it is 6-8 weeks from today.

I purchased my Dell laptop in mid-December. I recall reading nothing about a 6-8 week delay in receiving the Vista "Express" upgrade after Vista is released.

Microsoft and computer makers offered the Vista upgrade because without it, computer sales in November and December would have been close to $0. So folks like me bought a PC prior to the release of Vista, thinking we were going to be mailed the software at the time Vista was released.

If the 6-8 week delay is true ( I assume it is since Dell has not posted any info on their main site, and the Vista Upgrade page is down ), then Dell is a dishonest company and will never get my business again.

Vista code has been finalized and frozen for some time now in order to get copies in the distribution pipeline. I can go to any office store today and buy it. So why doesn't Dell have upgrade copies to mail out? Dell certainly knows what the demand is because it was a line item on the order!

So Dell, this is how you treat your customers? I would have waited until now to buy a PC if I knew I had to wait. But you already knew that - that's why you offered the "Express" upgrade - to keep the revenue stream coming in the last 3 months.

What's the return policy at Dell? Maybe I should return my laptop and go buy another brand loaded with Vista.

Or here's a proposal - Dell should send a check to each customer by "Express" mail so we can all go down to Staples and buy an upgrade copy of Vista.

What a bunch of , six to eight weeks is someones idea of a bad joke.

Is that 6-8 weeks to get the Vista upgrade once it has been ordered, or is that 6-8 weeks of run arounds with Dell service trying to find out why I'm being told I'm not eligible for the upgrade (it's on my purchase order)...?  I'm on day 26 here, and so far, not one person has been able to help, and the multiple maintenance  calls have been ignored...
