Vista System Administrator ??? I am it!
Today, I was allerted that Dell Data Safe program had an update so I verified it and started to install it! The process stopped and said that the "System Administrator" blocked or stopped it! I am confussed.. I am the only user of this machine and am the system administrator.. This only one of several instances where "System Administrator" must approve or do something.. If I am the system administrator, what am I doing wrong?

Save the download to your desktop...
Then right-click the file you downloaed... and Click "Run as Administrator"
That should work and allow you to install.
You are the Admin...
However, Vista's built in security is trying to watch out for you and your PC's well being ;)

Thank you for the response.. Once the update failed for Administrator Reasons, it went away and I can't find it or in fact the place where to download and try it again. The Dell data Safe page has no where to check for updates.. Maybe it will appear again in the near future! Thanks again...

Microsoft requires that THE Administrator account in Vista be disabled on pre-installed systems prior to shipment by an OEM. See this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926183
While there are many web sites that describe how to enable THE Administrator account, doing so is not recommended.
MoneyGuyBK's recommendation to right-click and "Run as Administrator" is the de facto method to install software that needs adminstrator privileges.

OK. If that bugger wants The Administrator, let's turn it on. First, I need to know your version of Vista. Is it Vista Ultimate/Business/Enterprise or Vista Home Basic/Premium?

For Windows Vista Home Basic or Premium, do the following:
Click Start.
On the bar that says "Start Search", Type cmd DO NOT press Enter.
Right click on the C:\cmd icon in the Programs window that opens above the "Start Search" bar
Select "Run as Administrator".
If you have not disabled User Account Control, a window will open. Click the "Continue" button.
At the command prompt, type net users Administrator /active
Press Enter.
You should get a message that says "The command completed successfully".
Close the command prompt window.
Now,
Click Start|Run
Type regedit
Press Enter.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Policies\System
Double click on the FilterAdminstratorToken key in the panel on the right. It should be set to "0". If not, change it to "0"
Close the Registry Editor.
Now try to install your Data Safe update(s).
Let us know how you fare.

I did as you said...when I got to the regedit section of filter adminnistrator token.. it was already set at 0..
I again received the update notice and it wouldn't let me do it... still said I need administrator permission or somethiing to that effect.. I think I will just let the Dell Data safe go away.. I is very hard to get any answeres about it.. AND NOW TO UPDATE IT!
