Vostro 1000 Windows 7 Drivers?

Dell's webpage currently shows no Win7 drivers for the Vostro 1000. Are there plans to provide these in the future? If so, is there any estimate of when? And, will it be just 32-bit, or will 64-bit drivers also be available.

Thank you.

The Vista drivers, as noted, will work OK as Windows 7 is basically "Vista Improved".

As far as Dell support for Win 7 on this model.  There are many Dell models that they are not supporting on Win 7.  Given how long Windows 7 has been out and if there is no direct Win 7 support by now it's very unlikely that there will ever be any official support for these models.  Keep in mind Dell is in the business of selling new computers.

Yeah! I dont get Dell really? Even though Windows 7 is not listed as compatible for some systems, but if you try them out. It actually works. I thought my Vostro 1000 was not capable of handling Windows 7, but I tried and it was a success.

Windows 7 works on the Dell Vostro 1000 laptop. Using Vista drivers actually. Because Windows 7 was the same driver model as Vista. Download Windows Vista drivers and install it in Windows 7. I have it running on my laptop. Trust me! Windows 7 is wayy faster than Vista on this laptop.

I have a Dimension E510 desktop, which has a Dual core CPU.  It came out during XP and they support Vista 32 bit but that's all.  It can run Windows 7 (although how well is another issue) and they do not support Win 7 on it either.  It's considered a "legacy" system (read not a current production model/line) and they are not supporting Win 7 on any "legacy" system.  Dell is not the only one, other PC vendors have products that are not being supported either.

One issue with some Dell systems is the hardware drivers for the devices.  Dell does custom implementation of some devices and with these devices non-Dell drivers will either not work at all or not work correctly.  Thus these systems, although will work with Win 7, for example, but because there are no device drivers these systems are not candidates for Win 7.  I see this quite a bit on the desktop audio section, as users try to use non-Dell drivers either to get addtional features (such as the System Mixer) or because they want to use an OS that Dell does not support.  SoundBlaster sound cards are another issue as SoundBlaster isn't supporting a lot of their products with Win 7 drivers and the Vista drivers in many models do not work in Win 7.  Although Win 7 is basically Vista for whatever reason many SoundBlaster products must have Win 7 drivers.

Thank you for the replies, everyone.

I originally posted my question last year and have since gotten Windows 7 to run on my laptop: 64-bit didn't work, but 32-bit did. Everything seems to run fine except that Windows Vista actually was a little faster. (I'm glad I made the switch to Windows 7 for other reasons, but Vista was, maybe, 30% faster booting up.)

No problem! We're glad to help you. I have a Vostro 1000 and I'll never switch back to Windows Vista. I love Windows 7!!!
