I tried the Toshiba Protector Suite QL 5.6 finger print software for Vista. It installs OK, but does not detect the fingerprint reader hardware.

All,

GOOD NEWS!  Dell released it this morning.  I am downloading it now from my D820 downloads page.

Great.

I download it, installed it and doing fingerprint enrollment.

It is taking significantly longer than it was in XP. Not sure why. Acccessing TPM chip takes much longer.

I closed Spybot but left NIS on. It asked me once for firewall and I allowed it always. No problem so far. Now i need to reboot to see fingerprint logon screen.

STOP THE PRESSES...

It locked down my netowork connections to say Unidentified Network and can't recognize the TPM.  I talked to Dell and they said it wasn't supposed to be released, and that it wasn't actually a Vista version.  They are taking it off the site right now.  The tech I talked to got in touch with the Dell liaison with Wave and he said this won't be released until middle of May.  They are far from being done with it.

If you successfully install this let me know.

One thing that I couldn't figure out was where to get the TPM software package that the instructions refer to.  Any ideas?

I'm downloading the 3 packages now - TPM 1.2, Embassy Trust and UPEK Touchstrip reader. All downloads are dated 22 March 2007.

:-)) I downloaded the Dell Wave Systems Embassy Trust Suite (R152039) which included the drivers for the UPEK fingerprint device. It is large at 93MB. I installed the whole mess and the Dell Preboot code failed. I uninstalled everything but the UPEK driver. You can install just the UPEK driver after unpacking the zipped download. I Installed the UPEK protector Suite QL 5.6.0 (build 3284) that I downloaded from Toshiba. It works on the Latitude D620 test platform! I was able to enroll my 10 fingerprints. I'll do more testing tomorrow.

I downloaded the Embassy Trust Suite this morning.
The first time I installed it I had a BSOD
I then installed ETS again which went smoothly but it complained about a licensing issue.
I then uninstalled ETS and rebooted. I finally installed again and it all works perfectly now. I can now swipe at the Pre boot bios which logs me into Vista. The PIM works and so does the Document Manager..
Hope this helps.

i installed it on vista, the applications seems to work fine. But after installing it my wireless connection stopped to work, I could connect to the network but haven't received a valid IP, only an APIPA address by windows.
I have removed the suite and wireless was working again.

very frustrating:smileysad:

BEWARE!

I have spoken with numerous Dell techs and they all say that this was a mistake.  They said that this version should never have been released.  Numerous users are experiencing a broad spectrum of issues after installing the software.  Many are experiencing Blue Screen meltdowns and worse.

They have confirm that we should not expect a "certified" version until mid-May.  They are working very hard to get it off the web site.  How hard can it be, eh?

I fully tested the UPEK software I downloaded from Toshiba. it is working better than rxpected, because it is much faster and does not require the ctl-alt-del preboot nonsense that Wave requires.

"installed the Embassy Trust Suite this morning. It installed and the wireless did not work afterwards, I had to configure my wireless connection with a manual IP address and it works that way. One note, the smart card reader does not work with the latitude D620, which it didn't work before installing the wave software. Well the smart card reader partially works, you can assign it to preboot authorization but the option to enroll it for windows logon is grayed out. But, after installing the wave software the card reader does now recognize the card as being an axalto cyberflex access card within the users control panel when you try to configure a certificate for Encrypted File System. The card is recognized by the native windows smart card service but it says it is busy and can not be accessed. Before installing the wave software windows could not determine the type of smart card was inserted. Obviously the wave software installs the mini-driver or middleware for the axalto cards but the wave software is claiming exclusive access to the middleware. I think that if you could uninstall the Embassy Suite without uninstalling the middleware software for the axalto smartcards then they would work with Vista. Really outside of pre-boot bios smartcard and fingerprint authentication that can only be enabled with the Embassy Suite software, I do not see a need for Embassy Security Suite. Vista has native TPM support. just type tmp.msc in the run menu on the start menu to bring up the TPM configuration. Vista has encrypted file system natively as did XP. If you have Vista Ultimate or Enterprise you can use Bitlocker with the TPM without using Embassy. As far as fingerprint reader I am not sure since the laptops we have at work do not have them, but from previous posts the Toshiba software seems to work, atleast partly. I think that the wave software is really clunky. I hope it gets better but even with XP it was kinda cruddy. It is cruddy that dell depends on this software to enable functions that are in the bios and do not have their own utility or functionality built into the bios menus themselves. It kinda makes you wonder who really writes the bios for these laptops. I just hope that Dell and Wave get their act together or Dell decides to release a bios that is does not hide essential security functions from the bios menu. I made a decision to go ahead and get the vista business express upgrade for 4 laptops for the company I work for and not only have I had to wait for the Vista Upgrade to ship (I still haven't gotten 2 of the upgrade kits) but the security software doesn't even work right. I thought vista was going to be security focused. Yeah whatever, I think it is just slow and causes conflicts with otherwise functional hardware. I really don't see much improvement since I beta tested it last summer. It is still slow and still doesn't work exactly right. I guess we got the upgrade license for Vista SP1 because this is obviously not ready for enterprise use. And the Zune doesn't work with it either.

If the link does not work or is removed, go to the Toshiba site and look for the Toshiba Fingerprint Utility for Windows Vista version 5.6.0.

I installed the toshiba sortware and kept getting Blue Screens referring to a BUG_CODE_USB driver.  I have uninstalled it.

What driver did you use for the reader itself? I used the UPEK 1.9.2.74 driver dated 10/28/06, tcusb.sys, that I downloaded from Dell. IMO a Toshiba drive won't work because systems are different and may use different physical hardware addresses that are hard coded into the driver.
