WD external (USB) portable hard Drive not recognized by Windows Explorer

I have a Western Digital "Passport" external (USB) portable hard Drive and was working fine until today; all the USB ports recognize the hardware (WDC WD12 00VE-00KWT0 USB Device) but I can’t see it in the Windows Explorer (VISTA Home Premium 32 bits). I restart the laptop (DELL Inspiron 6400) and run the WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostics and still can’t see it in the Explorer.

Can Anyone Help Me Please???

Wait for around 2 minutes before you make a final decision on what is wrong there.

I had the same situation as you, and its the programming of the drive that makes Vista take a long time for it to detect it.

There is a Vista USB cumulative Update Rollup, might solve the issue. Resoves 21 USB issues.

You might check Disk Management, is the drive showing up in there?

Problem solved, I updated as you said and then reinstalled the driver.

Thank you very much!!!
