Web Based email Not sending

I am trying to use my work email from my new DELL at home.  I had issues with getting the email to let me type a message, but I figured out I had to have ACTIVX COntrol and also updated my email security options in my web based email.  So now when I go to send the email, it goes through spell check and then it shuts the email down, closes the browser and reopens another browser to my default homepage.

I really need to be able to send emails from home on this....can someone guide me in the right direction??  I am new with this stuff and have no idea what to do.

Thanks!

Hi Jiggins,

I can help you with this.  First, I need more information so I can get you the correct recommendation to get you up and running.  Not to worry Jiggins, there is nothing serious going on, it's just a few settings ok?  To start, let's get some clarification on the following:

  • What OS are you running?  (I assume Vista since your computer is new)
  • What email client are you using?  MS Office 2007?  Outlook Express?
  • Have you set up an email account (a POP account) before on your other compuer?
  • Is your new email account a POP/SMTP type email account?  Or is it an HTML email account?
Answering these questions will most likely be all we need to get you set before the end of the evening!  PST.  You can always IM me too.  See my IM setings in my profile if you want to IM me now, or anytime as I am glad to help.  I have been in your situaton before, and it's not fun at all.

Some say that Linux has the only tight knit community.  I beg to differ!

Hey - thanks so much for the quick response!

I am running Vista
The email I am trying to use is from a www address...
The only email program I can see on this computer is MS Mail - I am using MS Office 2007 Student edition.
I have not set this email up on my computer as I also have no idea how to do this:(
The email that I am trying to access is not a new email - it is my work email that I have always used, but obviously never on my new computer.  I have no idea the difference between POP and SMTP??

Sorry this may not be enough info to help - let me know what else you need to know.

Thanks again!

Jess

Hi Jiggins

It sounds like you have MS Office from what you told me. That being the case you are using Outlook, which does help out a lot. We need to know for sure which email client you are going to use. On windows Vista Outlook Express is now Windows mail. Windows mail is an express email client, hence the name Outlook Express from years past. I recommend that you use Outlook because you are already more familiar with it than anything else. In addition, there's a lot more functionality with Outlook.

In order to get your work email you need to configure Outlook. You will need to add a POP/SMTP email account. POP/SMTP go together. here;s the great part of how i am going to help you. You are going to do this by yourself. While at work, take a screen shot of every page through the set up process where your email at work on Outlook is configured. Get the idea? Take those pictures, and some notes, and then apply what you have seen and learned to your home PC. Every setting at work can be the same at home. Everything. Once you have done this you will be able to receive your work email from home. One tip to be sure and make happen. In your settings, remember to tick the box "leave emails on server" You will also want to close out your email client from home, and close out your work email client every day before going home. This way, every time you open up your email client you will be pulling all the new emails off of the server after having closed it depending on which email client you happen to be running. Make sense?

just remember, that the specific settings at work will apply to your home PC - straight across the board. Do not deviate and you'll be just fine!

Good Luck!

parabola66.

The OP stated that he (she) was running Office 2007 Student Edition. OUTLOOK is NOT included with that edition. The OP also stated that the email application was a web based application.
