What pending truly means

Well i have been doing the pending dance for over two months now, not that's any help to you but it gets frustrating waiting for something you were promised  to receive at a express rate!!

  I guess if you are in a different warp field or something it is called express. Any how. We will just have to wait and maybe a little wiser next time!!!!

Update: Several Direct2Dell Readers are asking what "Pending" status means. Basically, pending means processed. In other words, if your order status shows Pending, you don't need to do anything else.

Try updating your credit card info per Direct2Dell instructions and see how far you get.

From what Ihave read there are many people that have been pending since October when the uprade program was offered. Microsoft released Vista a few weeks ago. Can you imagine the logistics? Our free upgrades are important but people paying $159 might be a higher prority.

Yup, I'm one of them. Has said "Pending" since I enterred the data when the site opened in November.

pcgeek11  is correct, your orders will say pending until they ship.

This article presents another real reason (in addition to order fulfillment by a third party) for the delay which I understand but it really begs the question of why the current Dell machines (current  XPS 410 for example) is shipping with Vista Home Premium installed. I assume the same hardware configurations are offered and there are apparently functional Vista drivers for them; why are there such delays on our XPS 410's or whatever computer one owns that is/was covered by the "Express Upgrade?"

 

To me, this just doesn't make sense. Unfortunately, nobody from Dell will talk about this aspect of it or answer these simple questions.

I found an article that may shed a little light on the upgrade programs by major oems. We may very well be Mid March to Mid April getting our upgrades....

Well the issue is genuine. I buy a new laptop with Windows XP loaded and all the bloatware that supports Windows XP. They send me Vista Home Premium that conflicts with all the bloatware preinstalled. I and thousands of others all call Dell with the same problems. Even though the remedy is simple people are going to become frustrated. I personally know of three different programs preinstalled that really frustrate installation. So the manufacturer decides to include an assistant to guide the process. More frustration.... Right this very minute Dell is probably practising with the assistant program to smooth the transition.
