Why do I have GRLDR in Vista
Hello all
First a little background info.
I have a vostro 1700, i had a hard drive problem, so dell sent me a new hard drive with factory image on it. i installed the hard drive, and put the damaged one in the second hard drive(so i could recover my files).
The factory image installed fine, but installed GRLDR..and my question is why did it install it, i have never installed linux, or any other OS'es except windows. (the old hard drive had vista/XP setup up for dual boot.)
and my second question is: is GRLDR better than the vista boot manager? because i want to repartition the drive and install vista/xp in dual boot setup. if it's better to use GRLDR.. how do i put it back on there when i reinstall everything.
any info on this would be most appreciated.

not sure why that grldr is there.
If you are going to dual boot and reinstall both os's, I would wipe the drive and start over, install XP first, then Vista second, Vista will install a bootloader automatically if done in this order, this is the easiest way to dual boot XP and Vista.

Thanks for the response..
I can't for the life of me figure out why grldr is there. I searched the net for hours trying to find some reason why it would be installed when i didn't have linux installed
But i was just wondering if it is more efficient than the vista bootloader, especially considering you can get a command prompt striaght from the grldr, without having to load the os first. Which is why i was considering keeping it on there.
On my old drive, vista was installed first, then i installed XP and manually edited the bcdedit file

"grldr" Is also the boot loader they use to hack Vista ( Vista OEM Hack ) to pass bogus BIOS SLIC Table data to the Vista activation process.
Are you running a Bogus installation of Vista?

not unless dell is running bogus vista...this was installed by dell....as i said in my original post.. i had a hard drive malfunction, dell sent me a new hard drive, with a factory image on it.. when i installed and turned it on.. it took about an hour for everything to install.....and when i restarted.. there was grldr.
but.. i would still love to know if grldr is faster, better than the vista boot loader.. before i go and do an install of vista64, and xp pro.
