will i be able to play games??
Hello all, I purchased the dell xps gen 4 machine and it should be in on Wednesday. I was just wondering if this will allow me to play my games. I want to play tiger woods 2005, and my old computer would "run out of memory?" when trying to play it, so I purchased this new machine hoping it will have enough memory to play it. Dell claims it is a gaming machine??.
thanks for the help

You don't specify what setup you had on your older computer that would "run out of memory." In case it was using a Windows 9X operating system your new system will be a giant step ahead if only because Windows XP makes all installed RAM available to applications, unlike the 64K limit of Windows 9X. I also suspect that you have ordered the new system with more installed RAM than on your older system. You should have an excellent gaming experience.

my friend who knows a little about computers said my old computer is a p3 550 with 256 megs of ram. I know it has windows xp.
My new machine is an xps gen 4 the one with the 3.4 and 1 gig of ram. Is that much better? Or is 256 megs bigger then 1 gig?? I assume the p4 is better then p3.

Yes that is a whole lot better :-). A Ferrari compared to a Volkswagen beetle.
1gig (gigabyte)=1000MB (megabyte), so your RAM is 4 times larger on the new PC than it was on the old one.
The other important hardware component for playing games is the video (graphics) card. But the one on the XPS gen4 will be just fine, in fact it will be one of the very latest.
Enjoy your new PC, I'm jealous.
