Win 98 SE Add / remove programs list lost

Question

Hi,

On my daughters Win 98 SE XPS R450, whilst sorting her network out after she also trashed Zone Alarm, I noticed that everything in the Add / Remove programs list had vanished. Tweak Ui also has nothing listed.

Fully up to date copies of Ad-Aware & Spybot turned up nothing, nor did NAV & Sophos, so I have no problems in those areas

I could scanreg /restore, but this will mean I have to sort out both the network & Zone Alarm permissions & trusted networks again. This and keeping an active 10 year old away from her P.C. and games is more than I could take without wine and a fillet steak.

Does anyone know of an easy way to recover this from anywhere, even say an old registry via scan reg /restore and then go back to the current registry.

Google didn't come up with much

It must be there somewhere, but I don't want to put an old registry back on until I can recover the programs list if that is possible.

ceri sheeran, See if going to Start|Run, typing REGSVR32 APPWIZ.CPL and clicking OK restores the listing.

Many thanks for your replies. I will give these a try when it is next safe to go in her room. Main storage area is, as with many 10 year olds, the floor, and to think I work in Health and Safety.

I do have a Ghost Image of the machine, but would have to spend a while re-installing numerous additional games that she now has.

I should have added this to the original post. The COMCTL32.DLL is used to create the 'list' function. Try using SFC to extract that file from your Win98 CD to C:\Windows\System, backing up the original just in case.
