Windows 7 ISO
Hi,
I have a Dell laptop which has bit the dust. It has a copy of Windows 7 on it which I would like to use in a virtual machine running inside my Mac OS as I have a valid license key for it. I'd subsequently like to upgrade to Windows 10.
As my Dell laptop is dead and won't boot I'd like to get a copy of the Windows 7 image. If I try to download this from the MS download site it tells me it can't be downloaded as this was shipped by another manufacturer and to contact them. However there is no facility on the Dell site to do this except via forums. I don't want to download a copy of Windows 7 from other third party sites as I just don't trust that the OS hasn't been tampered with. Can anyone tell me where I can download a valid copy of Windows 7 Home Premium?
Thanks.

Yes, the license itself is for the dead computer.
However, if you have a valid key, you can download a new genuine ISO key of any version of Windows 7 from Microsoft directly.

Windows 7 belongs to the dead computer and the license cannot be transferred or reused.

That's a bit unfair is it not? I bought the machine with an OS. Now that the machine has bit the dust you mean I can't transfer that license to another machine. What did I originally pay for?

That tool blocks Dell OEM Windows 7 keys so won't be of any use in this scenario.
As mentioned the license is dead if the Dell is dead.

He had a two part question.
1. Can he reuse the license key on a different computer.
We both agree that he can not, the license is tied to the dead laptop.
2. How does he obtain a genuine ISO of Windows 7.
The link I pointed him to is the correct answer, provided he has a valid key (other than for the dead laptop).

Provided he has a Retail or Retail upgrade key and not an OEM key. Even so it often generates language errors and other errors. The tool is mostly non-functional.

You bought a Dell with a Windows 7 OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer license.
The OEM license is cheaper than the full retail license and comes with two limitations:

Every day is a school day. Never knew there was a difference in Windows licensing.

A week ago I installed win10 on my Dell n5050 laptop.
After a lot of issues I decide to roll back to win7 but it`s not there any more.
I have a valid win7 key but when I go to the link for ISO copy from MSN, it wont allow it because it was preinstalled by Dell.
I`ve tried rebooting and pressing F8 but nothing happens.
When I do a search with Keyfinder it only comes up with a key for win10.
Where`s win7 gone and where do I get a copy to go back to?

In control panel under add remove programs there is a roll back to windows 7.
You must do this within 30 days of install.
