Windows 7 Issue - Please Help!
I have a Dell Inspiron Zino HD 400. I have been getting a black screen where I would normally see Windows start. Below are the remedies that I have attempted.
1. At first, I ran the Dell Pre-boot diagnostic test. It returned a memory error. I bought and replaced the RAM. Once the RAM had been replaced, I reran the diagnostic test and the computer passed. However, Windows 7 still would not start.
2. I attempted to boot the computer and press F8 to try and fix Windows 7 but there is no F8 option available! Does anyone know how I get into the regular F8 menu (Safe Mode, etc)?
3. I have no System Restore disc, and would prefer not to buy one.
Does anyone know any thing I can try?!

Dehalo212,
If you tap F8 at startup, it should bring you to a screen. Try using last good known configuration and see if it lest you in. I think there is also a repair my computer section. If it's there, you can repair the computer and even try a system restore point from there.
If you live in the United States, Request Backup Disks USA If you live in another Country, call Dell Tech Support in your Country.

Thanks for the reply. I try hitting F8, but nothing happens. I know my keyboard is working because I can hit F2 (BIOS setup) or F12.

Thank you for the replies everyone.
Mary,
Is the hard drive test in the diagnostics?

Dehalo212,
If you ran the full diagnostics, and everything came up cllean, then reinstalling the opertaing system is probably the route to take. How to Run the Dell™ Diagnostics Utility

You press F8 before any screen comes up same as F2 or F12. Try tapping it as soon as you reboot or hold it down. I've had support tell me both ways. You might have a hard drive failure. The diagnostics does not automatically run the extended hard drive test. You have to select that yourself. You should do that before trying to restore or reinstall windows. No use trying to reinstall on a failed drive.

Dehalo212,
Yes, the hard drive test is in the diagnostic as well as the other hardware attched to the system.
