Please have a look at <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell> , this is a hidden partition which you can use to restore your computer to factory settings.

Did you get a Windows 7 Dell Reinstallation DVD? If not since you are in the US you may request a set by filling in the form here. If you don't have one I would advise requesting them even if you go restore to factory settings. They are useful. Most systems are shipped without them but have the ability to select a set when customising the system.

If you wish to perform a manual install see my wiki A Clean Install of Windows 7 which will guide you through it using retail media and phone activation or a Dell Reinstallation DVD.

I noticed that on that link where it shows how to goto the recovery screen says to press F8 but on my system I have to press F12. Also I can't find anything that says recover system so I don't know how I can do it. I see like Bios and Internal HDD or something like that but no recovery.

The recovery to factory settings is accessed by tapping F8 repeatedly when booting up. Pressing F12 when powering up leads to the boot options and F2 is the BIOs setup where you can also change boot order.

Power down your system. Tap F8 repeatedly when you power up until you get to the advanced boot options.

Select "Repair your computer" and press Enter.

Select the last option, Dell DataSafe/Dell Factory Restore. Press Enter and login if required, follow through with the prompts and warnings.

I did try that but no matter how many times I press F8 it doesn't show that screen. I only see F12 but that doesn't have the recovery thing. Basicly I tapped F8 the whole time when the screen was showing the Dell logo before windows starts to load. The Dell screen doesn't last long but I did press it many times right after I turn the power on.

It is all a matter of timing ... try tapping F8 twice per second as soon as you see the F12 prompt on the screen - don't stop until you see the Windows screen - if you see the Windows screen, it is too late.

Apparently my OS must of been updated or something since I have Windows 7 Ultimate. I think originaly this system came with Windows Vista Home Basic. So basicly all of Dell programs are not loaded on the HDD. I got this computer used and had Windows 7 Ultimate already installed. But I tried pressing F8 so many times and fast but it doesn't work. Kinda strange but it doesn't work.

The advanced boot options should still display for windows 7 ultimate however you will be unable to factory restore as another OS has been installed.

Hi mme123,

If a clean installation of Operating system is done, the recovery partition's registry path would be lost and Dell datasafe restore option disappears.

Please reply for further questions.
