Windows 8 activation error after system restore

I recently had to do a system restore through the Dell System Restore programme, however now it appears I cannot activate Windows 8 - I get the "Windows cannot activate right now.  Try activating Windows later".

I have tried entering manually through a command prompt but all I get is an error 0x8004F80B.  Can someone please help me resolve this?

Thanks

How did you get the key you used to try to activate through the command prompt?

Use RWEverything (ACPI, MSDM) to get the product key from the BIOS, then go to Start and type in "activate" to find/go to the Activation screen, click on Change Product Key, and enter the key returned from the BIOS.

Just bumping this, if anyone can help.  I don't mind a factory reset if that will do it.

What happens when you run it?  How does it "freeze up [your] PC"?

Use the 'portable' version ... download, right-click, Extract All, then run rw.exe.

That is the only utility I know of that actually queries the HARDWARE to retrieve the key.

Use RWEverything to make sure you have the correct key.

I used ProduKey - i'm pretty sure it is correct but I still get the error above.

Unfortunately it just freezes up my PC, so I cannot do that.

It gets stuck on "Building FPDT table", ultimately I have to hard reset as I can't open task manager. This is running as an administrator so I don't think I'll be able to that unfortunately.

I got the key from ProduKey which seems to be fine.

Uh, If you still have Alienware Technical support, call them.

My comment is related to why the Stock Market was down the other day, and the resulting story line.  Upgrades to https and SSL.   which is rippling through net servers.

else, call Microsoft and ask them.

I have the exact problem. Cannot activate the windows after restore. It always ask me try again later. what's worse is that it automatically start windows updates but cannot finish it and need a few hours to undo the updates. I cannot use the computer during the undo process, which drives me nuts.

Any solution?
