It could be upsetting when the wireless display fails to work after Windows 8 upgrade and appreciate your efforts to fix this issue. Please reply to this post with the system model (E.g. Inspiron 15R), so that we can provide a resolution.
Thank you for your reply and for providing the requested information. I would like you to know that Dell has not officially tested Windows 8 on Inspiron N7010 and hence, drivers are not available. I suggest you to install the Windows 7 WiDi drivers in Compatibility Mode and check if can fix this issue.
Follow the steps provided below to install the drivers in Compatibility Mode:
1.Right-click the program's icon and choose Properties. 2. When the Properties dialog box appears, click the Compatibility tab and then click the Run Compatibility Troubleshooter button. 3. In the Compatibility Mode section, select the Run This Program in “Compatibility Mode For” check box and select the program's desired Windows version from the drop-down list. 4. Click OK and then try running your program again to see whether it works better.
Thank you for helping me. I do have one problem with this which I created on my own. I was trying to fix this the other day and instead of deleting the driving and reinstalling it I deleted the software. Is there a place on the Dell website where I can download the Intel WiDi software?
Thank you so much for your help. I was able to get the widi downloaded and installed but when I run the program it says that Intel wifi technology is not enabled. Restart the computer and try again. I've restarted a number of times and it comes up with the same message. Is there a solution?
Thank you for your reply and for providing an update on the status.
Please follow the steps provided below and check if it fixes the issue:
1. Go to Control Panel>Programs(Uninstall a program)>Find Intel (R) PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software. 2. Double click on it for the wizard to load and click “Next”. 3. Click on “Modify” and then on “Next.” 4. On the dropdown, click Intel (R) My WiFi Technology. 5. On to the left, click on a dropdown menu and click on “This feature will not be available”. 6. Click on “Next” and let it finish. 7. Please follow the same steps for the listed features. 8. On the items listed, click on the dropdown menu click “This feature and all sub-features will be installed on local hard drive”” 9. Click Next and the WiDi should work properly now.
Thank you for your reply and for providing an update on the status. You can try installing the wireless drivers suggested by garryweil if your system is configured with Intel Centrino Wireless 1000 Wi-Fi adapter or please reply with the model of the wireless card listed under “Network Adapters” in Device Manager.
So you were able to install the new wireless driver without error? Then you get the error message trying to install WiDi 8.5? The error message from the WiDi installer means one of two things; either the laptop does not meet the HW requirements or the necessary graphics and WiFi drivers are not installed. What version of the graphics driver is installed? What processor is installed? Does your laptop also have an ATI graphics?
Thank you for your reply. I suggest you to install the following wireless drivers in compatibility mode and check if the issue gets fixed: http://dell.to/UJX4Wr
Please reply with your findings and with answers to garryweil’s questions that would help us further.

If you have the Intel Centrino Wireless 1000 Wi-Fi adapter then you need a different version of the driver:

Ok good. Then you can use the following driver:

I tried using this driver this morning and I am getting the same error message. Is there something I'm missing? Thank you for your help.
