Since I updated to Windows 8.1, my Inspiron 7000 won't wake after it goes to sleep. Driver conflict?

I have the Inspiron 7000 14" and I'm having the same issue. I'm not sure if it Win 8.1 related or not. I updated it as soon as i received the machine.

I am experiencing the same issue with my brand new Inspiron 7000.
All I did was turn it on, insert wireless key and installed update to windows 8.1 and I noticed it the very first time the machine idled to sleep. I just can't wake it up. SO frustrating that I have to do a hard re-boot every time.
I have since updated the nvidia graphics driver but still no luck.
Please help.

I just spent a couple days dealing with 'no wake up' situation with my Inspiron 7520 after upgrading to 8.1.
I got a ton of advice from these forums and feel obligated to try and help someone else out. Man that was a couple of frustrating days...having to reboot every time I opened the lid.
I'm not an expert but here's what I did to my system:
Manually removed and reinstalled the two video display drivers...this didn't seem to have much effect.
Turned off Windows Update...I think this helped and was part of the solution
Unchecked box for 'turn on fast startup (recommended)' located at Control Panel/Hardware sound/ Power Options/System Settings...the only box checked here is 'sleep'...I think this helped and was part of the solution.
Also ran a diagnostic test from Dell...not sure if that helped but it didn't hurt anything.
Don't forget to reboot a couple times to make sure all the ducks get lined up properly. This morning I thought I'd be spending the next day or two going back to 8.0, but when I came home and lifted the lid the display lit up in less than 5 seconds.
I had a heck of a time finding information about this and the MS site was of no help at all. Could it be that they just don't want to tell people to turn off the automatic updater? I don't know, but tonight I'm very happy because this laptop is working great again.

Thanks for the advice telemark. I will give it a try and see if it works for me too.

And by 'did this' I mean updating the chipset driver is what finally solved the problem. Good Luck!

I spent another day chasing my tail on this issue. Updating the chipset driver is what did it.

The Intel Driver update utility will not work for me even though I have installed the latest version of Java and the activeX plugin. It just tells me all my devices are unrecognised even though the devices it mentions are clearly Intel.
So I manually installed the following:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20775&ProdId=816&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%208.1%2C%2064-bit*&DownloadType=Drivers
Which seems to have worked!
BTW - I have an inspiron 7537 with windows 8.1

Thanks Telly. Lets hope it really is the permanent fix it looks like it is so far!
Shocking that Dell support don't seem to know about this, so I hope this thread saves frustration for others in a similar situation ;)

Oh no. It is back!!!
After working faultlessly for 2 weeks it is back with a vengence... I restored my system to the oldest 'restore point' which was only 7 days old and that didn't fix it so I am very frustrated again.
I have managed to get Intels system detect on their website to work with my laptop and I have just updated the drivers for the Intel graphics. Fingers crossed...

I just bought a Dell Inspiron 15 3537 and I have exactly the same problem ever since I updated to 8.1.
I downloaded the chipset driver but nothing changed. Any other suggestions?

Hey you guys, I had the same problem on my Dell PC and laptop. The fix is easy. When 8.1 installs it brings it's own settings and can change some that you have never messed with. Here is what you do.
Go to 'Contol Panel' then pick 'Power Options' then click into the 'Advanced Settings'. This brings up a list in a box of settings dealing with sleep, hibernation, etc. Find the setting for 'wake with password' from sleep and turn it off, 8.1 seems to set it on as default.
This worked and is still working for me after months. REMEMBER TO SAVE CHANGES! Good luck

This is really doing my head in. I installed all my Dell Inspiron 15 3537 drivers in the Dell recommended order (after formatting, installing Win8, installing every Win8 update and then installing Windows 8.1), and it still doesn't work.
I've tried all the suggestions above, but if I *ever* allow my display to turn off, there's no way to bring the computer back without a hard power off. Crazy! :emotion-12:
Is it an Intel Graphics problem? AMD Catalyst problem? Other hardware problem? Windows 8.1 Problem?
