windows file explorer not auto-refreshing

Sometimes (intermittently) my windows file explorer decides that it is not going to auto-refresh. Any changes I make to files (rename, move, delete, copy) don't show up until I hit f5 or do something else to force a refresh.

I think it possibly only starts happening when I'm looking at thumbnail photos under 'My Pictures' ...or it may just be that this is where I notice it most (do a lot of photo renaming etc)

I've found I can make the problem go away by killing (restarting) explorer.exe

I've had my Windows XP machine about a year, and just tolerated this slight annoyance all this time, but I did wonder if any other people had seen this problem.

Someone else seems to have described it here: http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=sw_winxp&message.id=69390

Note we are talking about the windows file explorer NOT internet explorer

Yes, Vista does it too!  So much for an updated OS, it has many of the quirks XP had. :smileymad:
