Windows installer

Windows installer 3.1  Kb893803   is in my add/remove panel. I read that it has a bug and to upgrade to v2.    To install v2, do I remove 3.1 first or just download v2? I read all I could at M.S. but it didn't elaborate about this question. I don't know if I can uninstall an update like the old one in question.
The reason I ask is I could not remove adaware 20007 and the fix was to download the Windows script page. The bug in the installer caused the uninstall isue.
I'm running fine but would like the latest installer if advisable.
Thank you

Just install the version 2, the reason they came out with version 2 is because the first version did not install properly on many PC's.

"WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe is the redistributable package for installing or upgrading Windows Installer"

I have Windows installer 3.1  Kb893803 with no problems.

Are you sure that windows installer 2.0 is the new version when we both have version 3

Windows installer should uninstall older version first.

Maybe windows installer clean up utility will remove older versions, maybe thats the problem.

Tomron,
If you had looked up the link, you would have seen that the advice was to install Windows installer 3.1 (v2).

The Windows installer cleanup utility serves a completely different purpose. It is to be used if, trying to reinstall an app, or uninstall it through add/remove, you get an error message, because the install/uninstall information in the registry is corrupted. Using the cleanup utility you can remove those bad entries, which allows you to reinstall an app, so that the install/uninstall info gets rewritten correctly, after which uninstall through add/remove will function again.

No it will not. The Windows Installer cleanup utility does not uninstall anything. It just deletes some entries in the registry, as I explained earlier.
