Windows Media Player 10 Constantly Freezing

Question

I have been using Windows Media Player 10 for over a year, without any trouble. Just last evening I began having problems with the software freezing, for apparently no reason. I have also noticed that when I rip CDs that anywhere from 49%-70% of my computer's power.   This strikes me as odd, considering that I have 2 Gigs of Ram and  a 3 GHZ processor.  I restarted my system last night more than 4 times and STILL had to deal with the system freezing (when I rip files). Each disc I inserted only had 3 files on it that needed to be ripped.   Does this problem have anything to do with the fact that I have been ripping the Left Behind Dramatic Audio Series? Are these particular recordings more 'intense' somehow, that regular songs?   This is what I have already done: Installed the Windows Media Player update that I found at the Microsoft update site Gone to Add/Remove Components and 'added' the program again What else can I do? you will not have to reinstall windows xp to fix this. Did you try reinstalling it? and make sure you have no prorgrams open while burning or ripping. It tends to freeze up and mess up the disc.

I was trying to organize my playlists while my CD's were ripping, which should not have caused the problems I originally wrote about. I did the same thing with my Dell Inspiron 8600 Laptop and had absolutely no problems on the laptop.

The desktop (where I had the freezing issues) is much more powerful than my laptop and I was surprised to find that nothing I did could repair the problem. I have listed 2 solutions below. The second solution was the only one that worked for me. Try the first solution first, however.

Solution #1

(Try it--may work for you)

Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs
Click Add/Remove Windows Components (left-hand panel)
Select and/or deselt programs needed
Click Details to find programs within other programs
Once Complete Add/Remove Windows Wizard

Solution #2 BACKUP YOUR SYSTEM FIRST

(will work)

Backup hard drive
Insert Windows XP SPS2 disk (Purple CD) into top most drive
Go to Start | Turn off Computer | Restart
As system restarts, tap F12 key (until you hear beeps)
Boot from CD ROM drive that contains the XP2 disc
Follow subsequent directions accordingly.

:smileysad: I have no idea how to use this forum but i'm gonna try:smileyindifferent: for hours I have tried to figure out why my windows media player is so slow and freezes.  I am too afraid that I'll mess everything up if i reinstall my xp disc. I'd hate to have to reformat :womansad:  I have a dell 8400 and yes it was installed when i bought the pc, but I do have the disc. Is there any way that i can fix this problem w/o reinstalling the media player(xp)???????????:smileysad:and yes i am computer illiterate, could ya tell??:smileytongue:  but i know a whole lot more than i did when i first got my pc. I just dont wanna damage another 1:smileysad:  any help would be greattttttt!!!!  ty

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/mp10/default.aspx go to that site and download windows media player 10 and reinstall it and see what happens.
