Windows Media Player 10
When playing a file in mp10 - I get audio but no video - this came installed in my system, but I would like to get mp9, can't download from the site- it tells me I have a newer version installed and won't override it - CAN ANYONE HELP ME! XP home, Service pack 2.
No Events found!

The file you are playing IS a video file, correct? Music files have no video. But WMP should show visualizations.
Also, if you are trying to watch streaming video on a slow internet connection, it doesn't work too well.

You could try going to (IN WMP) tools--options--performance
Click the "advanced" button.
Uncheck "Use Overlays"
OK.
This worked for me when video files would work for a second, then go black.
