Windows Media Player V10 Problem

Question

I just bought a Simpleshare NAS to add to my home network.  I hooked it up last night and everything has worked great up until now.  After moving all of my music files to the NAS I deleted all of the songs from the library of WMP on my desktop.  Now when I try to add them back into the library from the new NAS drive location it simply won't add them.  It searches the folder and finds the songs and quickly counts through them but doesn't add them to the library.  I don't get an error message or anything, it just shows that zero files have been added and my library remains empty.  I have the 'Add files previously deleted from library' box checked, I changed the location for ripped music to be stored in (I don't think that would matter in this case anyway), I updated which folders to monitor for new music in the library option section and I have gone through all of the other setting to make sure it is all configured right.  I also did an uninstall/reinstall and several reboots and that didn't help either.  This is getting very frustrating as I use WMP to sync songs to my handheld and my phone.  I performed the same process on my laptop last night and everything, including WMP works great.  Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be going on?  TIA.   Matt

One more thing to add to my original post. I did a backup of all of the music files to an external drive attached to my desktop. I was able to populate my library from that list, just not my network attached storage drive. Thought may that could help rule something out - or maybe just confuse you more.

I gave up on Windows Defender Beta three months ago when the latest build started to create 5 or 6 'Checkpoints' every day, in addition to the regular XP System Checkpoints. Before that it was working great. When the final version is (finally) released out of beta, I'll wait and see if this bug is fixed. If so, I may give Windows Defender another try. You can fix Windows Defender beta 2 system restore point creation bug with simple registry edit:   In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scan   set DWord value DisableRestorePoint to 1.   If DisableRestorePoint value is not present, create it as a DWord   Edit: if it does not allow the change, right click Windows Defender key, click permissions, give yourself (Administrators) full permission first, then after the change undo that again. That register hack to correct the multiple restore point creations solved a problem that has been driving me bonkers.

It works great, lucky to find it on a string that covered it as a sub topic. Don't know why Microsoft hasn't patched that or at least posted the register workaround you posted. Maybe that is in the works.
